IBPS Clerk Photo and Signature Size

The photo and signature specification for the IBPS Clerical Cadre application form, with a tool preset to match it.

Target: 20 KB – 50 KB
Dimensions: 200 × 230 px
Choose your scan or drag it here output 200 × 230 px · 20 KB–50 KB · JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC in · JPEG out · paste from the clipboard works too

This tool is preset to 200 × 230 px and under 50 KB — the IBPS Clerk photograph specification.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose your photograph, or drag it onto the box above. It is cropped to fill 200 × 230 px from the centre — never stretched, so faces keep their proportions.
  2. There is nothing to set. This page is already fixed at 200 × 230 px, between 20.0 KB and 50.0 KB, JPEG.
  3. It crops to exactly 200 × 230 px without stretching anything, then adjusts quality until the file fits.
  4. Check the verdict before downloading. Because this form has a floor as well as a ceiling, the panel tells you whether the file landed inside 20.0 KB–50.0 KB — not merely under the top.

IBPS Clerk Photo and Signature Size: why uploads get rejected

A file can be the right size and still bounce — and here the size itself has two edges, since anything under 20 KB is refused just as firmly as anything over 50 KB. These are the failures that actually come up:

  • The upload is a PNG. The IBPS Clerk portal reads the file header, not the extension, so renaming photo.png to photo.jpg changes nothing — it is refused before the 50 KB limit is even considered. Re-encode it as real JPEG.
  • The photograph came in under 20 KB. IBPS Clerk publishes a range, 20–50 KB, and the floor is enforced as strictly as the ceiling. Candidates who compress repeatedly to "be safe" usually fail this way.
  • The signature does not meet 140 × 60 px, 10–20 KB, JPG. It is a separate upload from the photograph with its own limit, and it is the one most often overlooked.
  • The signature was photographed rather than scanned, so white paper came out grey and the 20 KB limit forced the quality down further. Sign in black or dark blue on plain white paper, shoot in daylight with no shadow across the page, and crop tightly to the strokes before resizing — a signature floating in half a sheet of paper ends up a few pixels tall once it is fitted to the box.
  • The signature is in block capitals. IBPS Clerk rejects capital-letter signatures explicitly — it must be your running handwriting.

How it works

Hitting a size limit exactly is a search problem, not a setting. There is no quality value that means “50.0 KB” — how many bytes a given quality produces depends entirely on the picture. So this tool encodes, measures the real file, and adjusts.

Here the dimensions are fixed at 200 × 230 px by the specification, so scaling is not available as a lever. Everything has to come from the quality setting, and the tool reports honestly when the two requirements cannot both be met.

Where the first attempt already fits — as it did on the reference file below, at 28.4 KB — the search stops immediately rather than compressing further for no reason.

The crop, the resize and every encode happen on your own device through the browser’s canvas API. A photograph for an official form is not a file worth handing to someone else’s server, and this page never receives it.

A measured run of this exact preset

Not an estimate: this page’s own code, run against a scanned signature and a 12.2 MP photograph, with every encode recorded. The files and the method are published here.

Step by step

The dimensions here are fixed by the specification (200 × 230 px), so the image cannot be scaled to help. The file size has to come from quality alone.

The first attempt, at quality 0.96, produced 28.4 KB — already inside the 50.0 KB allowance, so no search was needed. One encode and it was done.

Final file: 28.4 KB, using 56.8% of the allowance, with 21.6 KB to spare.

The two inputs do not behave the same way, and the gap is the useful part: the scanned signature finished 1.5× larger than the 12.2 MP photograph under the same settings. Detail costs bytes. If your own file is flat — a scan, a screenshot, a document photographed straight on — expect results nearer the 12.2 MP photograph row.

Who needs IBPS Clerk Photo and Signature Size

Candidates filling the IBPS Clerical Cadre form, usually close to the deadline when the ibps.in portal is slowest. Having the photograph and signature ready in the right format and inside 20–50 KB removes the most common reason a submission fails at the final step.

IBPS Clerk Photo and Signature Size — frequently asked questions

What photo size does IBPS Clerk require?

The photograph must be 200 × 230 px, 20–50 KB, JPG, light background. The tool on this page is preset to that specification.

What signature size does IBPS Clerk require?

The signature must be 140 × 60 px, 10–20 KB, JPG. Sign on white paper in dark ink, scan or photograph it in good light, then crop tightly before resizing.

My IBPS Clerk upload is under the maximum but still rejected. Why?

Almost always the floor. IBPS Clerk publishes 20–50 KB, and a file at 10 KB is refused exactly like one at 100 KB. People hit this after compressing several times to "be safe". Aim just under 50 KB, not as small as possible. Portals read the real file header, so renaming an extension changes nothing.

Can I use the same photo for other exams?

Usually yes, provided the photograph is recent and the other exam’s dimension and size rules are met. Requirements differ between commissions, so check each specification rather than assuming.

Are these specifications current?

They were verified against ibps.in on the date shown at the top of this page. Commissions do revise requirements between cycles, so always confirm against the official notification for the exam you are applying to.

How do I resize my photo for the IBPS Clerk form online?

Upload it to the tool at the top of this page. It is already set to the IBPS Clerk specification, so there is nothing to configure — select your photo and download the result. Everything happens on your device, so it works even on a slow connection near the application deadline.

Your photograph is never uploaded. That matters near a deadline: the work happens on your device, so it does not slow down when the portal does, and it works on a weak connection — how that works.
