AI Text Cleaner
Strip the em dashes, curly quotes and invisible characters that AI writing tools leave behind.
How to use this tool
- Paste or type your text into the box above.
- The result updates as you change the input — there is nothing to submit and nothing to wait for.
- Read the figures in the result panel, or copy the converted text.
- Use Copy or Download if you need the output elsewhere. Nothing was uploaded at any point.
Language models have habits that show in their output: em dashes everywhere, curly quotes and apostrophes, the … character instead of three dots, and occasionally zero-width characters that survive a copy and paste. Each rule here is a separate switch, and the result panel reports exactly how many of each it changed rather than quietly rewriting your text.

How it works
This tool runs entirely in your browser. There is no server involved, which means nothing you type or upload is transmitted, stored, or logged — and there are no usage limits, because there is nothing for us to ration.
You can confirm it yourself: open your browser's developer tools, select the Network tab, and use the tool. No request is made.
Who needs AI Text Cleaner
Cleaning drafted copy before it goes into a CMS, removing formatting that breaks a plain-text field, or tidying pasted output so it matches the rest of a document.
AI Text Cleaner — frequently asked questions
Will this make text pass an AI detector?
No, and anyone claiming otherwise is guessing. Detectors look at word choice, sentence rhythm and predictability, not punctuation. Removing em dashes changes how text looks to a reader, not what a classifier measures. Use this because straight quotes and plain hyphens suit your document, not as a bypass.
Why do em dashes matter at all?
Mostly because they break things. A plain-text field, a CSV, an older CMS or a form that expects ASCII will mangle or reject them. The association with AI writing is a recent and unreliable one; the compatibility problem is older and real.
What are the invisible characters it removes?
Zero-width spaces, zero-width joiners, byte order marks, soft hyphens and bidirectional formatting marks. They carry no width but survive copy and paste, and they can break string comparisons, search and word counts.
Does it change my meaning?
It changes punctuation and whitespace, never words. Replacing a dash with a comma alters the rhythm of a sentence slightly, which is why the replacement is yours to choose.
Does this work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the internet and it keeps working, because all the processing happens in your browser. That is also the simplest way to confirm nothing is being sent anywhere.
Is there a limit on how much I can paste in?
Nothing we impose. The practical limit is your device’s memory, since the work happens locally. Very large inputs get slower rather than being refused.
