How to use this tool

  1. Enter your own figures over the defaults — Number of A grades (4.0), B grades (3.0), C grades (2.0) and the rest.
  2. The answer updates as you type. There is no button, and nothing is sent anywhere.
  3. Change one input at a time to see how sensitive the answer is to it.

This is an unweighted GPA on the standard 4.0 scale. Weighted GPAs give extra points for honours or AP courses and can exceed 4.0.

How it works

This takes 4 inputs — number of a grades (4.0), b grades (3.0), c grades (2.0), d grades (1.0) — and returns gpa, total courses and grade points. The whole calculation happens in this page as you type: there is no submit button, no request, and nothing stored.

A worked example

Worked through with the figures the page already has in it: number of a grades (4.0) of 3 and b grades (3.0) of 2, and the rest as shown, giving gpa of 3.33. These numbers come from running the calculator’s own code, not from being typed in here, so they cannot drift away from what you see on screen.

Starting from:

  • Number of A grades (4.0): 3
  • B grades (3.0): 2
  • C grades (2.0): 1
  • D grades (1.0): 0

GPA Calculator — frequently asked questions

What is a good GPA?

Above 3.5 is generally considered strong; 3.0 is often the threshold for graduate programmes. Standards vary widely by institution and field.

Is this weighted or unweighted?

Unweighted — every course counts equally on a 4.0 scale. Weighted GPAs add extra points for advanced courses.

What about credit hours?

This treats each course equally. If your institution weights by credit hours, a course-count GPA will differ slightly.

Is this calculator free?

Yes, with no account, no limits and no data collection. It runs entirely in your browser.

Should I rely on this for a financial or medical decision?

No. It is a planning estimate built on standard formulas and stated assumptions. For decisions that matter, speak to a qualified professional who can account for your full circumstances.

Is this calculator accurate?

The arithmetic is exact — it uses the standard formula. What limits accuracy is the assumptions: the figures you enter, and factors the formula does not model such as fees, taxes and rule changes.
