CSV to JSON

Convert CSV into JSON, handling quoted fields, escaped quotes and commas inside values properly.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste or type your text into the box above.
  2. The result updates as you change the input — there is nothing to submit and nothing to wait for.
  3. Read the figures in the result panel, or copy the converted text.
  4. Use Copy or Download if you need the output elsewhere. Nothing was uploaded at any point.

The parser follows RFC 4180 rather than splitting on commas, so a field such as "Smith, John" survives intact, as does an escaped quote inside a value. Numbers and booleans can be converted to real JSON types instead of staying as strings.

How it works

This tool runs entirely in your browser. There is no server involved, which means nothing you type or upload is transmitted, stored, or logged — and there are no usage limits, because there is nothing for us to ration.

You can confirm it yourself: open your browser's developer tools, select the Network tab, and use the tool. No request is made.

Who needs CSV to JSON

Turning a spreadsheet export into JSON for an API, converting data for a test fixture, or reshaping a report before importing it.

CSV to JSON — frequently asked questions

Why did a naive split on commas break my file but this works?

Because a CSV field can legally contain a comma if it is quoted. Splitting on commas tears those fields apart. This reads the quoting rules properly.

What if my file has no header row?

Turn the header switch off and each row becomes an array instead of an object.

Why is my postcode or ID turned into a number?

Type conversion treats anything numeric as a number, which drops leading zeros. Turn conversion off to keep every value as a string.

Does this work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the internet and it keeps working, because all the processing happens in your browser. That is also the simplest way to confirm nothing is being sent anywhere.

Is there a limit on how much I can paste in?

Nothing we impose. The practical limit is your device’s memory, since the work happens locally. Very large inputs get slower rather than being refused.

Can I use this on a phone?

Yes. The layout adapts to a small screen and everything works the same way.
