Why uploads get rejected
Meeting the size is only part of it. These are the failures that actually come up:
- The file is not really a PNG despite its extension. Renaming a file does not change its format.
- The file is corrupt or was only partially downloaded.
- You needed the transparency preserved — JPEG cannot store an alpha channel, so it is filled with white.
How it works
Your browser decodes the PNG file, then re-encodes it as JPG. Both steps use the browser's own image pipeline, so no library is downloaded and nothing is sent over the network.
Where the source has transparency and the target format does not support it, transparent areas are filled with white rather than black — the default that catches people out with other converters.

Does converting lose quality?
Some, since JPG is lossy. The tool encodes at 90% quality, where the difference is generally invisible.
Is EXIF data preserved?
No. Metadata including camera details and GPS coordinates is discarded during conversion. For most people that is a privacy benefit, but if you need EXIF retained, this is not the right tool.

Are my files uploaded to a server?
